Connect, Grow, and Thrive

About Us

Welcome to the Family, School, and Community Partnerships
AERA Special Interest Group (SIG)

Our purpose is to promote and disseminate research, theory, and practice focused on the connections among families, schools, and communities that enhance children’s learning, development, and well-being. We seek to create a collaborative space where researchers, educators, practitioners, and community members come together to explore how relationships among families, schools, and communities can foster educational equity and culturally sustaining approaches to teaching and learning. The FSCP SIG values diverse methodologies, interdisciplinary perspectives, and community-engaged scholarship that highlight how partnerships are shaped by culture, language, policy, and context. Through conference sessions, publications, and networking opportunities, we aim to bridge research and practice, cultivate mentorship, and inspire action that strengthens the ecosystems surrounding every child’s education.

My name is Michelle Bologna Dasgupta, and I am an EdD student in the Department of Educational Studies at The Ohio State University and a former secondary teacher and coordinator. In March, I will be defending my dissertation, "Connections with Latina Immigrant Mothers: What Do They Tell Us?" My research investigates family-school-community relations and engagement within Latin American immigrant communities, prioritizing mothers' lived experiences, secondary urban education, and the development of collective efficacy among Latina immigrant mothers. These interests stem from both my personal and professional experiences. I am the daughter of a Mexican mother, which underscores the importance of this work for me, as well as a mother to a rambunctious and happy six-year-old girl. I have also worked extensively with first-generation students and their families and look forward to collaborating with them in the future!
